Arsenal – The Official Newsletter
The last seven days at Emirates Stadium
On the pitch On the pitch… Goals from Robin van Persie, Abou Diaby and Andrey Arshavin helped Arsenal to a 3-1 win over Birmingham at Emirates Stadium. The Gunners then maintained control of UEFA Champions League Group H with a 1-1 draw in Alkmaar on the same night Samir Nasri and Lukasz Fabianski made their return from injury in the Reserves' 2-2 draw away at Wolves. The Under-18s drew 2-2 at home to Norwich while the Ladies registered a 4-1 win over Bristol Academy.
Off the pitch Off the pitch… Thomas Vermaelen became the first Arsenal player to win the EA Sports Player Of The Month award in his first two months at the Club. Members of REDaction will push a hospital bed from Emirates Stadium to Upton Park before the West Ham match to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity. The Birmingham game last Saturday was the Club's dedicated 'Arsenal for Everyone' matchday, embracing diversity and equality within the global Arsenal community. Also, Theo Walcott was ruled out for 'three to four weeks' after picking up an injury in that match.
Wenger: 'This squad is my most attacking yet'
Arsene Wenger

Arsenal have found the net 40 times in 14 matches so far this season and Arsène Wenger believes his current squad could be the most attack-minded side he has ever produced. During a press conference, the Frenchman was asked if this was the most exciting team he has managed. "In terms of goalscoring potential, certainly," responded Wenger. "We have shown that up to now and there are still some offensive players who have not [been able to] contribute yet."

'Vermaelen could be a holding midfielder'
Thomas Vermaelen

Alex Vann emailed the MatchDay Show with an interesting proposition during the AZ Alkmaar game on Tuesday evening. "When song goes to the Africa Cup of Nations, I really think that Vermaelen could play as the holding midfielder," he says. "Mikael Silvestre could keep the left-footed vibe in defence alongside William Gallas as he likes to play on the right."
